Professional Achievements & Experience:
I began my teaching career back in February 2012 where I was part of the South Korean Government program to place native speakers into public schools. After that I moved into private education specialising in teaching TOEFL test taking skills. For a short time after which I was teaching adults and high school students ESL/EFL in Vietnam and then the UK. I came to China in 2014 where I taught College Preparation, Business Studies, and Business Studies in Beijing to prepare students for University in the USA. After leaving Beijing I came to Suzhou in 2017 where I spent two years teaching students Modern American History, Ancient to Medieval World History, and Geography to prepare them for Canadian Universities.
Approach to Teaching & Learning:
I like teaching because it allows me to engage in various different subject and skill areas in order to help students develop their knowledge and skills necessary for their academic and personal growth. My personal preference is teaching senior high students, especially over two or more years, as its truly remarkable to watch them go from children to mindful young adults in such a short space of time. I believe that, where possible, students should take responsibility for their own learning and that lessons should be as students focused as possible. Over time I strive to build a transformational relationship with students where they will seek development for the benefit of gaining new knowledge and mastering new skills as opposed to merely just doing so in expectation of good grades.
My main hobby is travelling and I’ve visited almost 60 countries so far and hope to add more. I also like to cook and experience new cuisines. I enjoy reading historical texts and watching documentaries and visiting places of cultural and natural interest.
